For over a decade, music lovers have flocked to Appleton, Wisconsin, for Mile of Music. This cover-free music festival features 200 artists and 40 venues, all along one mile of downtown Appleton. Attendees will enjoy emerging artists, spanning a wide range of genres. You can enjoy singer-songwriters, duos, and multi-piece bands playing original indie, folk, bluegrass, rock, rap, soul, and more. This festival celebrates homegrown talent as well as up-and-coming artists from across the United States.
Mile of Music is a free music festival that features original music from hundreds of emerging artists each summer. The festival is located in the heart of downtown Appleton, a walkable mile of restaurants, coffee shops, retailers, bars, and more.
Along the one-mile stretch of College Ave., attendees will find more than just music venues. You will find restaurants, bars, and breweries offering a variety of cuisines. Along the festival route, you'll find the food trucks and tastings. Near the main stage events, you'll find the official Mile of Music merchandise tent. Attendees can show their Mile of Music spirit with T-shirts, posters, pins, and more. Take that perfect selfie at the photo booth, or grab a seat in one of the listening rooms.
Mile of Music is held every summer on a one-mile stretch of College Ave. in downtown Appleton. Known as One Great Mile, this walkable area features restaurants, bars, hotels, and stores. The festival starts at Locust Ave. to the west and extends east to Lawrence University. Attendees can expect road closures during the event.
Mile of Music will announce the 2025 lineup in Spring 2025. The full schedule will be available in Summer 2025. Past festivals featured artists from all musical genres, including rock, folk, country, rap, and blues.
Although there is no RV parking at the event or in downtown Appleton, there are several campgrounds within driving distance of the event. Located about 16 miles from downtown Appleton is Apple Creek Campground & RV Park. This campground is loaded with amenities that will make every RVer happy. You can purchase snacks, toiletries, and supplies at the camp store. Campers will enjoy amenities like modern bathhouses and a laundry room. Kids will love the heated pool and game room. While you're camping, you can refill your propane tank, purchase firewood, or use the dump station. When you're ready to go to Mile of Music, you can hop on I-41. High Cliff State Park sits on the eastern side of Lake Winnebago, approximately 12 miles from Appleton. This park features 112 family campsites and eight group campsites. Some of the family campsites have electrical hookups. Two sites are accessible for campers with disabilities. All campsites permit pets, so you can bring along your furry friend! The family campground has a building with showers and flush toilets. There are vault toilets located throughout the park. Registered campers may use the dump station and garbage station for free. You can also purchase firewood at the park. If you want to extend your vacation, Minneapolis and Chicago are an easy drive in your RV!
If you want to stay closer to the festival, Appleton has many local hotels near all the action. Located close to the center of Mile of Music is the Hilton Apple Paper Valley, which hosts several festival events. This hotel offers a shuttle to the Appleton International Airport. You can book a standard guest room or larger suite. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and a flatscreen TV. You can grab your morning coffee in the hotel Starbucks or walk to one of the nearby restaurants. For a more luxurious stay, you should check out the CopperLeaf Hotel + Spa. This hotel features large rooms and suites with free Wi-Fi, Italian linens, and whirlpool tubs. You'll also enjoy the in-room coffeemaker, mini-fridge, and microwave. If you select a suite, you'll get a sitting area with an electric fireplace. This hotel is close to the main events and food tents at the Mile of Music. You can see your favorite acts and then walk back to the hotel to relax. No matter which option you choose, you should make your reservation early because rooms sell out quickly.
The nearest airport is Appleton International Airport (ATW), just five miles west of downtown. You can also travel to Appleton by car or RV. Appleton is about 30 minutes south of Green Bay, two hours north of Milwaukee, three hours from Chicago and 4.5 hours from the Twin Cities. Once you arrive in Appleton, the downtown area is easily accessible by I-41 and WI Highway 441.
Parking may be limited. There are parking ramps available for a fee. All parking ramps are pay-as-you-exit. During the festival, some areas may restrict parking or close completely. Attendees should pay attention to bagged and restricted meters, city parking signs and regulations, and business lot signage. You can take advantage of local public transit. Taxi and rideshare services are also available.
Mile of Music features hundreds of sets of free live, original music. All you have to do to attend an event is walk into any official Mile of Music venue. You should arrive early because some events may have limited capacity. Some events and venues may be restricted to adults 21 and over.
